We've been anxiously awaiting the final installment, and the book does not disappoint. The first thing both my daughter and I noticed (and chuckled about) is how hefty the book is. She immediately started reading, though. My own relationship with sex and learning about sex and bodies was complicated. I have worried about my ability to know when to teach what and how to give my kids an appreciation for all the complexity and beauty of sex, bodies, and gender. I have so appreciated all three books in the series for this reason. They answer my kids' questions but also open the channel for conversations and more questions. This third book that gets into some of the more difficult topics (at least for someone mostly raised to think about sex and gender in very specific ways and not to even talk about those) is beautiful. There are even parts that help me to process my own feelings. It's powerful at any age to read that your reasons, your choices, your body, are yours and that making different choices or looking or feeling different are just different, not better or worse. Some highlights: - discussion of virginity - discussion of pornography - discussion of gender - discussion of consent It's just so helpful, open, and nonjudgmental. Truly a gentle and safe way to learn about sex.
