This duet built me up, broke me and then pieced me back together beautifully. Salem and Thayer’s journey was a slow burn to start with. I loved watching their attraction grow and the relationship develop. There was so much that Salem went through prior to her meeting Thayer. I was always impressed with how strong she was and how she didn’t let her circumstances get her down. She perserveared. I also like that she was strong with her condition—specifically about college. I love that she took a road that people often think isn’t okay. She knew her passion (even though she lost it for a bit in book 2). She wasn’t going to try and be something she wasn’t. When the unspeakable happened and Thayer fell apart I think it took courage and conviction for Salem to do what she did. Book two starts with a time jump of six years. Both Salem and Thayer have changed a lot during this time and have not spoken at all. Without giving spoilers away—I still cannot decide how happy I am about the secrets kept. I understand it but I go back and forth on what was right and wrong. Watching them now grow as a couple and explore their feelings again was amazing Seeing Salem grow through another tragedy was sad but again her growth, strength and independence is what made her a great FMC. I loved how they ended and how Salem found passion again with her mom’s store. The only thing I’m left in the wind about is Caleb. Honestly—I wanted to hate him at the beginning. I thought he was selfish but as I read about him more in book 1 and 2 especially I fell for him. I would give anything for a Caleb spinoff somehow. Not negating Thayer but Caleb ended up being a selfless, amazing man.
