I really enjoyed this book, but until I read the finale, I hesitate to write a review. That said, I waited to start the series until I knew the 'last' book was coming out in a week. I also always check that the time btwn publishing books is short-ish, (as in the last book was released about 4 months before the next one), in the event that the author writes one more I won't have to wait for eons to finish the darned story. Now I see there are 4 books. And the (maybe?) final book won't be out for an entire year?!?! I now regret even starting the series. I was looking forward to book 3, believing this to be a trilogy. So here is my gripe/plea to the universe (and to all authors across Amazon and beyond)... Let readers know how long you plan your series to be. Even just an estimate. 'Its gonna be a trilogy.' Or, 'it will be a 15 book series.' So your readers can decide how much they want to invest too. Laurell K Hamilton, for example... 15 years ago I devoured her Anita Blake series up to book 5. I begrudgingly read all the way to about book 9. Then I gave up and haven't touched one of her books in over a decade because its the series that never ends, it just goes on and on... (sorry if that song is in your head now too). I think I saw she recently published book 20 or some madness like that. Anyway, I doubt that Raven Kennedy is planning anything of that magnitude (I hope!) She is an excellent writer and I have really enjoyed most of her series in the past, and honestly, this story has been slow brewing and all twisty so far, but still an engaging read. But I know myself well enough to know that by May 19th, 2022, I very well may have forgotten all about this series and Amazon tends to neglect to remind me even of followed authors. *sigh* So please, Outstanding Authors of Amazon, don't drag this stuff out. Or at the very least, let readers know at the outset (e.g. Book One of Four, kinda thing). A year. 😧
