i was fairly excited for this deck, as it combines two of my favorite things, but when i opened it today i was pretty bummed. the art, while nice, seems to be very muted. i don't know if that's due to the linen finish or the thick black border or both, but a little more vibrancy would've been appreciated. the biggest problem, though, in my opinion, is the handling of the minor arcana. linking the suits with ability scores is a cool and good idea! but the cards need to either be labeled with the suit somehow, or have the art be themed more heavily toward the ability score. it can be hard to tell at a glance which suit a given card is for a great majority of them, which is bad news bears for trying to do a reading. some of the pieces feature very visible references to classes which match their suit (the King of Charisma is clearly a bard, for example) but some seem to be just neat art that goes with the theme of the specific card but not the suit. perhaps after a time i will become familiar with the cards, but this isn't a deck that i would reach for outside of playing D&D... and even then, i would use a deck themed toward the specific character i was playing. having encounter prompts linked with each card does make a handy little DM tool, though, can't argue with that. do a spread and weave an adventure hook off the prompts + the vibe of the card reading itself? heck yeah!
