I thought I would have a lot of trouble getting my head around the challenge presented by this novel. Yet, due to my years living in the north country, I had to give it a try. I worked with Chippewa and Dakotah Sioux in North Dakota for several years. While working with them, I’d came to appreciate the differences between the two groups, and often wondered what might have come had their worlds not been invaded by outsiders. The beauty of this work, however, is not the alternative history. Rather, it is the easy-reading prose. LANGUAGE: moderate adult language, include one page with the “f-word.” Skip page 279 and you can avoid the word, btw. BOTTOM LINE Five stars out of five. Yes, I LOVED this story.
